Project: Lee Park Feasibility Study
Client: City of Charlottesville Department of Parks and Recreation
Location: City of Charlottesville, Virginia
The City of Charlottesville Department of Parks and Recreation called on Line and Grade to work along side Parks and Rec' staff to creatively redesign Tonsler Park's Basketball courts. The courts, originally developed in the 1940s, were planned to be updated as a part of the Tonsler Park Masterplan.
Lee Park Feasibility Study
Line and Grade developed a comprehensive design to redevelop and re-align the new outdoor basketball courts to meet the NCAA recommendations for outdoor play; for both size and slope. Earthwork was minimized due to a clever 3D model developed for the project. The 3D model allowed us to take advantage of natural topography and excess base material to regrade the site and fit the new courts within incredibly tight margins.
We also developed a new specification for the outdoor court surface, and worked with Musco Sports lighting to develop the new court lights. The project has been heralded as a complete success; both the City Parks Department and the local community are incredibly proud of the new courts.
