How they ended up here / Why Civil Engineering and Planning
Jessica pursued a degree in civil and environmental engineering from a love of math, science, and a curiosity of how things work from a young age. Jessica began her career as a traffic engineer, and her curiosity for understanding the broader picture of why people and goods need to move led her to the field of urban planning with a focus on transportation. Jessica has led a variety of multimodal transportation planning and engineering projects in Virginia and Florida. She is motivated by a desire to help people and communities grow and to make the world a better place. As planners and engineers, our work makes a difference in people's lives and in the health of our planet.
Favorite part of their job
Jessica's favorite part of her job is blending technically rigorous analytical approaches with meaningful community engagement. She loves listening to people's stories. Lived experiences are their own form of data, and when combined with quantitative data, can form a full understanding of complex problems. Jessica also enjoys the challenge of managing projects with many moving pieces and finding ways to communicate technical concepts in ways that everyone, regardless of their background, training, or educational attainment, can understand.
Other Interests
Jessica enjoys cooking, spending time with her family, and being outside especially at the beach or on a hike through the woods.
